Pick an anchor you can actually see

Aim at a visible structure, not the empty space beyond it. The game images show a rope connected to an overhead bar and to a cave ceiling. Use those as examples of what to look for, then test the actual target in your current run; every bar or ceiling is not necessarily hookable.

Stand back from the next edge long enough to look ahead. If the target is hidden behind the cart or another player, shift your view. If you only see a distant patch of sky, hold the shot until a real candidate enters view. An early miss is often easier to recover from than a late blind shot at the edge of a gap.

Separate target choice from landing choice

A rope can visibly catch while the cart still ends up in trouble. Before firing, ask two questions: Where can the hook attach? Where will the wheels go next? The official lava-cave image makes this distinction obvious: the hook is overhead, while the cart still needs to move toward solid ground.

Practice without changing everything at once

Use the same visible target for two attempts. On the first, watch whether the rope attaches. On the second, change only the aim point within that structure. If the result still fails, inspect the timing instead. This prevents a common trap: rushing, missing, then changing target, speed, and timing together so you cannot tell which adjustment helped.
